WORD OF THE WEEK

Lionize: to give a lot of public attention to someone. To treat someone like a celebrity.

A popular example is how Gretchen and Karen lionized Regina Geoge in Mean Girls. In most high-school movies, the popular kids have a gang following them around. A popular example is how Gretchen and Karen lionized Regina Geoge in Mean Girls They treated her like she was the queen of the world, just to be popular by association. This is pretty common in movies, but it can also be in real life. They're known as "wannabes".

However, sometimes people are lionized out of pure respect. Many people lionize Oprah or Beyoncé, and most of them actually respect them.

So, here's another word to add to your vocabulary.
