WORD OF THE WEEK

Meliorism: the belief that the world can be made better by human effort.

Sentence: The teenagers that march for human rights are believers in meliorism.

Undoubtedly, I can say that humans have had a huge impact on Earth. Whether you understand this as a good impact or a bad one is up to you. Humans have seriously messed up the planet- global warming, wildfires, violent wars, and disease outbreaks are all results of our work. Not only are we destroying nature, but we are also destroying our own kind- racism, sexism, and transgender inequality. We judge people by the color of their skin, the religion they follow, their racial profile, the neighborhood they live in, their socio-economic status, their age, and their cultural stereotypes. However, it would be unfair to say that everything we've done is bad. Humans have drastically improved, too. From cave people to the modern generation, we've accomplished a lot! We're also trying to fix things by making environmental-friendly choices and/or taking action to encourage others to take action.

Do I believe that humans can restore the glory of our planet?

Do you?

Until next week...

Love,

Sarah
