The Science Behind: Reality Shifting (Part 1)

Another day. Another trend on TikTok. And this one includes the beloved universe of Hogwarts, and the even more treasured Mr. Draco Malfoy. It started with people doing POVs and imagining studying at Hogwarts and running around Draco, but this newly introduced phenomenon can actually make it happen! The hashtag #shiftingrealities has over 21 million views, and every fandom seems to have created its own method and reality to be transported to. The top two being Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter, and Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

Shifting is “moving your consciousness from one reality to another.” You can train your mind to enter a different reality. You can move between your DR (desired reality) and CR(current reality).

Honestly, I didn’t believe it at first. It seems juusssttt a little bit unreal for humans to travel between realities. So my instinct was to google the science behind it, and well, here we are.

Here are some anecdotes from people who have ‘shifted’ before:

A fifteen-year-old from Ireland named Helen shares her experience, “Shifting is a very strange experience. It’s like an extremely vivid dream, yet it’s more real than any dream I’ve ever had. Before I plan on shifting I write myself a script in the notes app on my phone, in which I plan exactly what happens in the desired reality. This makes it easier to visualize exactly what I want to happen - so I might script that I want to go to Hogwarts and for Draco to be my boyfriend, or that he will flirt with me.”

Another TikTok-er named Allison said, “Shifting is just something I found fascinating and I thought I’d try it out. The shifting experience is different for everyone. I see bright white lights flickering and my body begins to vibrate and go sort of numb. My legs will twitch and I’ll start to feel my thoughts get ‘lighter’. I’ll also hear people from my DR desired reality speaking - usually Draco.”

So other than learning that a LOT of people have a (justified) crush on Draco Malfoy, we can observe that ‘shifting’ feels like a lucid dream. A dream that you can design. Cool!

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT:

Shifting or multidimensional travel might have just started trending, but the research wayyyy back in 1983. A report for the CIA analyzes the different ways people shift between dimensions. The study was done by Lt. Col. Wayne M. Mcdonnell. According to Col. Mcdonnell, when the brain reaches a certain point of complete rest, it enters energy at infinity, which physicists called “the Absolute”. The research tells that between the universe where we actively ‘perceive our existences' there are multiple dimensions for humans in states of expanded consciousness.

I guess that once again proves just how powerful the human brain is. Isn’t it just incredible that we can shift between realities if we try hard enough?

To be honest, this seems like something out of a sci-fi movie, so stay tuned for part 2, where I’ll discuss the method to the madness.

Until next time,

Stay curious ;)
