The Science Behind: Artificial Intelligence

Cover- Ananya V.

“The term Ai was coined in 1956, but nowadays the term has become more and more common because of increased data volumes, advanced algorithms, and improvements in computing power and storage.”

In this article, I will be going over The science behind AI.

What is Ai

Ai stands for Artificial Intelligence.AI uses data given to it to come to a conclusion that mimics the human brain. The simplest AIs are search Ai, a search Ai tries to find the optimal path or solution. The two most common search forms are depth-first search and Breadth-first search. In an example of a maze depth-first search searches the maze till it leads to a crossroad if it finds nothing their is backtracks and checks all other possible choices one at a time. While Breadth-first search searches all possibilities at the same time.

History of AI

As I said before, early research of Ai started in the 1950s which explored topics of problem-solving.In the 1960s the Department of Defense started to take interest in Ai to mimic human reasoning. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) was able to complete a mapping system software in 1970. But because the computer at that time had weak computing power because of this the computers had too much memory and power making it impossible for the AI to do anything. One example of this was: “Ross Quillian's successful work on natural language was demonstrated with a vocabulary of only twenty words because that was all that would fit in memory.” So DARPA got frustrated with the very little progress made with AI and cut funding on most projects. But in 2011 Ai started to increase its intelligence. Because of cheap, strong, and fast computers advanced machine learning ideas were implemented. By 2016 ai related markets had reached up to 8 billion dollars. And since then the market has continued to grow.

Conclusion

As humans move farther into the future.Ai will become a major player of the future. I hope you learned something from this article, and see you next time.
