I-CREATE Youth

I-CREATE YOUTH is a youth-led nonprofit organization that is dedicated to spreading creative writing education, resources, and opportunities to K-12 students with visual impairments of all degrees. While our focus veers towards K-12 students with visual impairments of all degrees, anyone is welcomed to use our resources. Creative writing, including but not limited to poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, is a tool to express ourselves, to find fragments of our identities, and to empower others. Yet, many visually impaired students do not receive education opportunities to explore creative writing.

In order to make creative writing more accessible, we tailor our initiatives to suit the needs of the visually impaired with the hopes of using our resources to spark a love for writing. We create curriculum syllabi for various genres of creative writing to teach visually impaired students, run a literary collective (Kalonopia) for writers to share their work, spread information, and resources on visual impairment and blindness and compile messages to encourage disabled students. For our ongoing initiatives, check out our initiative page. We’re also always looking for youths to join us, and they can become a team member, fellow, or chapter lead.
